Warm Weather: New Orleans
While Mardi Gras in February is the party to end all parties, a more sedate time to visit New Orleans is in April for those of us who don’t have that kind of energy anymore. The month kicks off this “best US place” with their annual Freret Street Festival, held on the first Saturday of the month. It celebrates the local businesses, live music, fantastic food, and people of the Uptown-based neighborhood. Next up, you have the loved by locals, and more recently, sought after by visitors, French Quarter Festival, an annual mid-spring fest that celebrates New Orleans’ most beloved neighborhood, the French Quarter.
Starting at Jackson Square all the way to Woldenberg Park, fest-goers can experience everything that makes the French Quarter magical. And we’ve saved the best for last! One of New Orleans’ most significant and most popular festivals is Jazz Fest, which draws massive crowds from all over the world every year. It spans over two weekends, with 14 different stages, Jazz Fest foods, and a legendary lineup of musicians, performers, and artists.
Cold Weather: Washington
It’s no surprise that our nation’s capital city has many historical attractions and is considered one of the best US places. If you’re visiting DC, you have the perfect opportunity to tour the White House, the Smithsonian Museums, and you definitely can’t miss checking out the National Mall with its incredible Monuments.
While here, take a moment of silence to remember the legacy left behind by Martin Luther King Jr. at the MLK memorial in West Potomac Park, or on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, where he delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. This city is truly a gold mine for all history buffs! It’s no surprise that our nation’s capital city has many historical attractions, there’s so much to see and experience, and it’s a fantastic place to be. But it’s best to have a map on hand to help you navigate.
