January
Warm Weather: California
While most people’s first pick would probably be Mexico during this cold month, we suggest staying closer to home and choosing Southern California as a “best US place”. For example, you can ring in the New Year by hunting down the sun in the wellness capital of the world. But if spas and raw juice cleanses aren’t your thing, don’t worry, we have lots of things in store for you.
Start off with a tour of Los Angeles and turn south to the beaches of Orange County or even laid-back San Diego. Next, head towards the heart of the state to the desert landscapes of Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, and Death Valley, and finish your SoCal excursion in style at El Encanto. It’s a hotel in Santa Barbara perched on a hillside overlooking the terracotta roofs of the charming region’s houses.
Cold Weather: Colorado
You were probably expecting us to say this, but it’s a no-brainer. Colorado is the best US place for winter enthusiasts because it has every possible snow activity you can think of. You can try your hand at heli-skiing. You’ll drop from a helicopter instead of that boring ole’ ski lift we’re all used to, in the backcountry at beautiful Telluride.
You can wallow in some natural hot springs after spending your day riding down the mountain in Steamboat Springs. Or even welcome some winter camping and dog sledding at the renovated mine town of Dunton Hot Springs, where you’ll go back in time to find an Old West saloon. Here you’ll have the opportunity to ice climb and, naturally, enjoy some more hot springs!
