Red Rock Country
While a lot of the routes mentioned on this list twist and turn their way through the best of the American outdoors, this American road trip destination is a straight journey through the vast and seemingly endless desert terrains watched over by skyscraper-like rock formations that make you feel like you’re on a road trip adventure on Mars.
Not only will you feel like you are driving on a different planet, you’ll also feel like you are driving in a time machine that pays homage to our pre-colonial past as your journey will take you past the National Monument/ancient cliff dwelling known as “the Montezuma Castle.”
And while you’re there you can also take in the splendor of the Rock State Park.

I have been on all these routes but you missed including Rocky Mountain National Park!
Great article but could you mention the state(s) that the following roadtrips cover?
1) Historic Columbia River Highway, 2) Red Rock country
My daughter and grand daughter just drove back and forth across RED ROCK COUNTRY. FROM THE GRAND CANYON TO SEDONA TO WINSLOW( stood on the corner with statues singing “Standing on the corner in Winslow Az “ ) and back to Flagstaff.
Ye, I was missing that too. (the states)
Took my first trip on Rt 66 in 1961 as we moved from Pennsylvania to Los Angeles. I am planning on another trip this coming year. I look forward to the painted desert and the petrified forest, I still have Glacier Part in Montana to traverse. Why go overseas?
My best friend and I have always loved road trips. This list gives us more destinations that we haven’t seen yet!
