Going-to-the-Sun Road

Now for something a bit shorter but no less beautiful, the Going-to-the-Sun Road is 50 miles (80 kilometers) of jagged cliff-hugging mountain glory and is the only road to span the Glacier National Park in Northwest Montana.

Whether you start from either Route 2 Or Route 86, this east/west, west/east road trip adventure over the continental divide is a visual feast for any driver.

From the lush green forests alongside Lake Mac Donald, down into the deep valley surrounded by glacial covered mountain tops, to the Saint Mary Lake with its awe-inspiring 100 ft (160 m) crystal waterfall, this American road trip destination is a must for every nature lover wanting to experience the very best of the American outdoors.

I’m interested in taking my granddaughter thru the Outer Banks beginning May 18th or 19th 2025 for 3-4nights/days & after returning inland, heading to see Bald Head Island, NC for 1-2 nights/days. She is on a spring break from MUSC & is to be back to school in Charleston for class the last week of May. I prefer to be back in SC before the big rush of Memorial Day w/e. Any suggestions of places to stay like air b & b’s or similar?

Took my first trip on Rt 66 in 1961 as we moved from Pennsylvania to Los Angeles. I am planning on another trip this coming year. I look forward to the painted desert and the petrified forest, I still have Glacier Part in Montana to traverse. Why go overseas?

Great article but could you mention the state(s) that the following roadtrips cover?
    1) Historic Columbia River Highway, 2) Red Rock country
