Boston, MA

You’ve got to admit that Boston is one of the best US sports cities! If there’s one thing that can be said about Boston fans in general, it’s their commitment to their favorite sports teams.

Like most major cities, each of the professional teams in Boston is a massive part of the residents’ identities, which means that the fans experience very lofty highs and extreme lows depending on how the seasons go.

Boston teams have seen a ton of success in the first decades of the 2000s. The Red Sox won the World Series 4 times between 2000 and 2020, while all 6 of the Patriots Super Bowl Championships took place in that same window.

The Bruins and Celtics each had a championship in recent years, which means that each major team had a tournament throughout this time. In other words, the first few decades of the 2000s were a great time to be a Bostonian.

Chicago, IL

The Windy City is arguably one of the best US sports cities, America’s sports dynasty hub, and one of the rare places where history, authenticity, and tradition are still as important as it ever was.

Wrigley Field is a legendary ballpark and one of the oldest and most authentic places to have a true American baseball experience, with hotdogs and beer included.

Chicago is also home to two of the US’s most well-known sports dynasties: the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team, six-time Stanley Cup winners and the Chicago Bulls basketball team, in which Michael Jordan won a whopping six championship rings.

As far as the American sports pastime is concerned, there are very few places better for an epic football tailgating affair than Soldier Field, where the NFL’s Chicago Bears play.

And once you’ve cheered for every team, you can also eat at one of the famous sports-celebrity restaurants in the city.

Miami, FL

Miami might not traditionally be considered one of the best US sports cities, but it’s home to a team in every major sport.

While the Sunshine State might not traditionally seem like a city known for its fondness for sports, Miami fans take their teams very seriously, and it helps when those teams are in the middle of some pretty good seasons.

The Miami Heat has brought some of the most prominent NBA players to Florida, and most recently, the team made a powerful playoff run to the NBA Finals, where they unfortunately lost to Denver.

Many of the arenas and stadiums in Miami are nestled in the city with beautiful ocean backdrops and top-of-the-line facilities. And Miami might not exactly be a major hub of sports, but being a fan in this city is a fun time for residents of the 305.

Philadelphia, PA

Philly definitely stands out from us as one of the best US sports cities. Its fans may be loud, but at the end of the day, it’s all fueled by the overwhelming affection for their teams, many of which have had triumphant seasons in recent history.

The traditions within the Philadelphia sports fandoms come from many years of history and new developments. This includes embracing the Tiesto remix of Callum Scott’s Dancing on My Own, which the Phillies have embraced in their recent playoff runs.

Speaking of this team, it was recently declared that the best mascot of all time is the Phillie Phanatic, who has been the face of the Philadelphia baseball team since 1978.

Inspired by the iconic green creature, the Philadelphia Flyers recently introduced their lovable mascot named Gritty, who has taken the internet and Flyer fanbase by storm.

New York City, NY

When discussing the best US sports cities, there’s a lot of debate over which city reigns supreme. If we’re talking extreme variety for sports fans, nobody beats NYC.

The Big Apple has some fantastic options in all 4 of the major leagues: two baseball teams, the beloved Yankees and Mets. Then there are the two basketball teams, the Knicks and Nets, and the Rangers hockey team.

And, of course, two football teams, the Giants and Jets. But then there’s also a soccer team, NYC FC. Plus, those are just in New York City itself, not including the other teams in New York state or nearby New Jersey.

Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles is one of the best US sports cities, rivaling New York for the number of teams, with two MLB, NBA, and NFL teams and one NHL, WNBA, and MLS, both men’s and women’s teams.

By having so many options, LA residents and the rest of the city are bonded in many ways. Like New York, having competing teams in each league adds internal competition among the city’s fans.

While we already know that LA is the hub of many other pop culture experiences, sports definitely do NOT get lost among residents who always pack the house at their team’s games.

Las Vegas, NV

Never to be left out, Sin City is one of the best US sports cities for fanatics. If you like playing the odds, you can bet to your heart’s content on practically every sport on the planet.

For the non-squeamish, Vegas is also regularly home to some of the world’s biggest and hottest MMA and boxing matches. There’s no better place to catch a high-profile and legendary fight.

Las Vegas even has a hockey team now, and they’re on their way to getting their own basketball team shortly, too.

Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN

The twin cities would only be what they are with the teams that call them home, making St. Paul and Minneapolis one of the best US sports cities.

The Vikings, Wild, Twins, and Timberwolves all play in Minneapolis and St. Paul, making these cities a hub for major sports throughout the Midwest. A handful of endearing and funny traditions are part of the Twin Cities team and fan history.

The fans here have been through it all together, and they have a sense that to appreciate them fully, you have to be a part of them. Be sure to pick up a shirt if you attend any games!
