Gates of the Arctic National Park, Alaska
If you really want to get away from everything then there’s no better place than the Gates of the Arctic National Park. This protected landscape is free of man-made roads and trails, meaning you better be prepared if you want to go for a walk. It’s best to go during the summer season when the sun will be out the longest- safety first!
It’s the U.S. northernmost park, situated entirely within the arctic circle. Due to its remoteness, the park sees very little visitors, 10,047 in 2016 as opposed to the Grand Canyon National Park’s 6 million.
We recommend camping here, but make sure you’re well prepared and keep restrictions in mind when crossing Native Corporation lands within the park.
