California: Big Bear Lake
Big Bear Lake is one of California’s most popular destinations because, much like Tahoe, it transforms from a booming ski town in the winter to a magical lake town in the summer. Hotels aren’t what you should be looking for here!
The name of the game in this lake town is renting a house on the water and spending your days swimming, fishing, hiking, and mountain biking.
Travelers will find constant entertainment within the small village of Big Bear. Start with brunch at Teddy Bear Restaurant and then check out the microbrews at Big Bear Lake Brewing Company.

I can’t believe Lake George, New York wasn’t included in your nine best lake towns article. The cleanest and most stunning lake in the US. Thirty two miles of non polluted waters. Camping on the islands of the lake as well as many other local locations. Gourmet dining and many resorts, the most spectacular being the Sagamore Resort in beautiful Bolton Landing. Perhaps you should add this to your areas to explore in your next travel article,
Sincerely,
Karen Howard
I absolutey agree about Lake George!!!
You missed the prettiest lake in all of the US.
MOOSEHEAD LAKE in MAINE
I come from Northern Michigan and this area, Copper Harbor, is 50 miles South from my home. Copper Harbor is actually at the very end of the state of Michigan. U.S. Highway 41 has a sign there that says that is the very end of Northern Michigan and that highway would run right into the water! This highway actually still runs south through many states and ends way down in Miami, Florida! Lake Superior is the” Big Lake” and it surrounds that peak of land that ends in Copper Harbor. Also located very near by is Fort Wilkens. It’s a very old Fort and a sight to see since they have restored it over the years to be the way it was when it was first built.
Just don’t go there to swim….Lake Superior is just too cold !
How in the world could you not include Smith Mountain Lake in VA???????
My parent’s home was right on Lake Winnipesaukee in Wolfeboro, NH…with a beautiful view and lovely, friendly people!
There’s nothing commercial, very historic and a wonderful place too live or visit!
You obviously have not ever seen Lake Chatuge, nestled between Hiawassee, Ga. and Hayesville, NC. One of the prettiest lakes ever!

The most beautiful lake in the world….TORCH LAKE ……..in northern Michigan
