Galena Inn: Galena, Illinois
The Galena Inn is a historic home constructed in 1856 on a peaceful street. For those who didn’t know, Galena was the hometown of President Ulysses S. Grant, who, fun fact: was a friend of the original owner!
In 1869, President Grant gave his farewell speech to the town from this bed and breakfast’s main balcony before taking his place in the White House.
Nowadays, though, visitors can learn about the place’s history and even stay in the room where Ulysses S. Grant used to lay his head. The Galena Inn delivers colonial-style rooms with antique decor, making you feel like you’ve traveled back in time.
But don’t worry! Each uniquely-named room has modern amenities, including Egyptian cotton bedding, for an enjoyable stay. You’ll find deluxe guest amenities outside the property, including a hot tub spa and a magnificent English garden.
The owners provide their guests with a fulfilling breakfast, making sure they’re fully energized before they set out to explore the charming town. Note: Children under the age of 12 aren’t allowed to preserve the peaceful nature of the bed and breakfast.
