Look familiar? That’s because these limestones form the background of the great battle scene in Prince Caspian, the second of Andrew Adamson’s big screen Narnia adaptations. Known as Flock Hill, these dramatic valleys and tortured rocks are about 90 minutes drive from Christchurch on the Arthur’s Pass Highway to Greymouth.

If you make it to the top of Mount Eden (I hiked a volcano for this), you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Auckland city below. That monumental structure sticking out of the skyline is the Auckland Sky Tower, an observation and telecommunications structure that also allows visitors to experience a Skyjump or SkyWalk – their names are explanation enough.
