Kepler Cascades, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Found roughly 2.6 miles from the Old Faithful area in southwestern Yellowstone, Kepler Cascades is a photogenic roadside waterfall in the Firehole River. The cascade drops almost 150 feet, the most significant being 50 feet.

There is a fine viewpoint of Kepler Cascades on the road heading from Old Faithful to West Thumb. This is the place you want to stop to get the best view.

This roadside waterfall a stunning sight, which, according to one member of the 1871 Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition, would be “revered in the East.”

  1. You should also include Gooseberry Falls in Minnesota on the North Shore!!! It’s as scenic as any others you mentioned!!!!

  2. You really need to come on out to the Pacific Northwest!!!! Some of biggest, ‘right on the road’ waterfalls are in the Pacific Northwest..
Beautiful, awe inspiring, Multnomah Falls is only 30.5 miles east of the Portland (OR) Airport – PDX. It’s on I 84. You don’t need to leave your car if you don’t want to (they do have rest rooms if you need a pit stop 🙂 For an added treat, just look at the other side of I 84 and you’ll see the gorgeous majestic Columbia River (border between Oregon and Washington) on it’s trip to the Pacific Ocean.

  3. Bald River Falls near Tellico, TN. A rocky stream is beside the road all the way up. there’s a trout hatchery near the top. great trout fishing all the way down. We take picnics.

  4. What about Taughannock Falls on Cayuga Lake in New York? Highest falls in eastern U.S. You can drive right up to the overlook. Your opening photo appears to be it.
