5 Best Summer Camps for Adults in the US

Remember going to summer camp when you were little?

Being an adult means too many responsibilities and not enough fun. Once you’re grown with a full-time job, the appeal of summer isn’t as promising as it used to be. Most of us work full-time with bills to pay and piled on responsibilities.

We all know the struggle, and sometimes, all our duties and worries add up. Our summer months mainly involve sitting near the AC and struggling to catch some time at nearby beaches over the weekends. So let’s think back.

At one point, summer was synonymous with canoes, campfire songs, and lots of other outdoor adventures. This is how the idea of adult summer camps came about. You can go to summer camp for grown-ups and find fun activities with others in the same boat as you!

Whether you’re looking to stay active or dress up and live life like you’re in a video game, adult summer camps are the perfect way to meet new people, unleash your inner child and forget about your daily worries.

Ready to rediscover the joys of unplugged playtime? We guarantee you won’t feel homesick at all in any of these 7 nostalgia-inducing grown-up summer camps.

1. Camp Halcyon

Where? Wautoma, Wisconsin

Camp Halcyon invites you to relive your childhood with summer days filled with exciting activities. The best part? This time around, you get to do fun stuff that you weren’t allowed to do in your youth!

This adult summer camp welcomes anyone above 21 years of age who wants to fully unwind in a fun and familiar way. The activities include wine tasting, canoeing, campfire cooking, beach volleyball, and archery.

Drinks ARE allowed here, childhood memories inspire the food, and a pie-making class provides lots of entertainment and dessert. We won’t lie: You’ll be roughing it up a bit, especially with the sleeping arrangements.

There are wood-shared cabins that house every four campers together. Except that you’re an adult now, so you can request some privacy and special deals if you’re with your significant other. At Camp Halcyon, there’s no electricity, and cell phones are a no-no.

However, in case of emergency, the camp DOES supply you with power. And if you decide you absolutely HAVE to use your phone, you can occasionally be a rule breaker.

Still, instead of spending time on your phone, why not spend it with a drink in hand or telling stories around the campfire? You can find the summer camp in Wautoma, Wisconsin. It’s set up in the same area as camp Lakota, a previously renowned summer camp for kids.

2. The Green O Camp

Where? Greenough, Montana

You can consider The Green O as a hotel-within-a-hotel, seeing as it’s part of the 37,000-acre Resort at Paws Up. This more minor, adults-only summer camp is perfect for those who are looking for seclusion without having to sacrifice any luxury amenities or accommodations.

The accommodations you get here are called “hauses,” and there are only 12 of them, some of which are even suspended above ground. But don’t fret. Each one offers you plenty of natural light via their floor-to-ceiling windows.

The best part here? There is a fireplace and plenty of outdoor space to take in the serene forest views. Are you craving some more adventure? You can sign up for many activities like horseback riding, fly-fishing, hiking, boating, or climbing expeditions.

Where? Kent, Connecticut

Club GetAway is one of the first summer camps created for adults. It’s been operating in Connecticut since 1946, and it’s considered an adventure resort where people from all over the world come to unwind.

Some delicious dining options include BBQ, seafood, gourmet, and lots more. You can likewise get a panoramic view of the lake and mountains directly from your cabin, so be sure to bring your camera.

And the best part is that the air-conditioned cabin has its own comfy foam-filled mattress, private bathroom, and you even get daily housekeeping service.

The program at Club Getaway is filled with many fun activities like rock climbing, zip-lining, water skiing, wine tasting, and a few fabulous dance parties. There won’t be any of your typical daily routines here.

They have over 25 activities to do, with some of the more interesting ones being lego building, stilt walking, charcoal drawing, and many more! There isn’t anything considered too bizarre at camp grounded, and staying up late is the norm.

It’s the place to forget your everyday adult worries and return to those carefree childhood days. With the beautiful northern Californian weather, this camp is located at the perfect spot for fun outdoor experiences.

5. Camp Big Cedar Lodge

Where? Ridgedale, Missouri

Big Cedar Lodge has named itself “America’s Premier Wilderness Resort,” and we understand the appeal. The summer camp, located in the Ozark Mountains, spans over 4,600-plus acres alone.

Campers of all ages will particularly love the 50,000sqft activity center, which includes underwater-themed bowling, an arcade, laser tag, bumper cars, and a golf simulator, to name just a few activities.

You can also choose from all kinds of other activities like horseback riding, water sports, volleyball, shuffleboard, bonfires, pickleball, guided hiking, biking, mini-golfing, fishing, and boating, waterskiing, wakeboarding, and, of course, relaxing on the sandy beach.

To sum up: this summer camp is a child’s perfect playground…but for adults, of course!

In the end, no matter which of these summer camps you choose, one thing’s for certain: You can put your worries away and become a kid again…even if it’s just for a few days!
