“I want to travel the world!”

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? How many of us wouldn’t want to bask in the sun on a Greek beach? How many of us wouldn’t dream of watching the cherry blossoms in season, in Japan?

Before you renew your passport, however, remember there are plenty of world wonders waiting for you within our borders! From stunning beaches on either coast, to the Western Rockies and back to the Eastern Appalachians, there’s simply so much to see!

Whether you want to visit as many modern urban developments as possible or you want to get back in touch with nature on a seemingly endless hiking trail, we think you should consider touring all 50 states before you book that flight to Europe, Asia, or Africa.

For today’s list, we decided to look at small towns all across the U.S. that can satisfy every traveler. These destinations won’t make you sacrifice modern-day luxuries while offering more than enough nature to fill your needs for a good, long while!

Sedona, Arizona

Among Sedona’s majestic red rocks, you’ll feel like you’re out of this world!

This Arizona city has been a favorite among many travelers, likely because it’s got something for everyone. Big families can go on vacation together without making anyone feel left out in terms of activities.

For instance, you can hike up more than 400 miles of trails if you want to get in touch with nature and stay active. Or you can enjoy live music at a variety of bars and restaurants. Feel like having a glass of wine? Why not pay a visit to one of Sedona’s famed boutique wineries? After all is said and done, make sure to stop by a luxurious spa to unwind.

In addition, there are many fishing and bird watching opportunities, perfect for those who like even more relaxing activities.

And don’t even think about heading back home before you take a trolley tour or fly above the clouds in a hot air balloon!

Kauai, Hawaii

Do you feel like visiting a garden? What about an island? Wait! Why not visit the U.S. own “Garden Island”!?

The tranquility and timelessness of Kauai have long been revered by both locals and tourists. Hiking, snorkeling and kayaking are par for the course on the state’s oldest, northernmost island, to name a few activities.

The Kīlauea Volcano only has a minimal risk of eruption, so don’t be afraid to visit it. We think you’ll instantly fall in love with the picturesque views, just check with the locals before you head on over there.

There’s fun for all ages here, so whether you’re traveling as a couple of with your family, you’ll never get bored. Learn to dance the hula at the Smith Family Garden Luau, Polynesian Cultural Center, and then watch planetarium shows and participate in lava demonstrations at the Bishop Museum.

Of course, don’t forget there are plenty of beaches to lounge on- just don’t forget to apply sunscreen!

Sarasota, Florida

When you visit Sarasota, Florida, you’ll find three things in abundance: gorgeous white beaches, out-of-this-world vegan food and a bountiful art scene.

If you vacation here you’ll find that the city is very quiet and peaceful, far enough away from major cities to feel like a refuge but close enough for a day trip. Tampa, for example, is 60 miles away.

Sarasota has also been known as a cultural mecca for decades. That’s why you can’t miss out on visiting the Historic Asolo Theater, built for Queen Caterina of Cyprus’ palace in Asolo before it was dismantled, purchased and reassembled to host plays and opera.

Additionally, you could plan your visit around one of the many festivals held here such as the Sarasota Film Festival, the Harvey Milk Festival which is held in support of the LGBTQ+ community, or the Sarasota Chalk Festival!

Gates of the Arctic National Park, Alaska

If you really want to get away from everything then there’s no better place than the Gates of the Arctic National Park. This protected landscape is free of man-made roads and trails, meaning you better be prepared if you want to go for a walk. It’s best to go during the summer season when the sun will be out the longest- safety first!

It’s the U.S. northernmost park, situated entirely within the arctic circle. Due to its remoteness, the park sees very little visitors, 10,047 in 2016 as opposed to the Grand Canyon National Park’s 6 million.

We recommend camping here, but make sure you’re well prepared and keep restrictions in mind when crossing Native Corporation lands within the park.

Carmel-by-the-Sea, California

You’ll find that every street is picture-worthy in Carmel-by-the-Sea, more commonly known as Carmel. Both tourists and locals have long since called this city the most artsy alcove in California. Filled with wineries, historical sites, and loves for its shopping, there’s always something to do in Carmel!

We highly recommend booking your vacation around the Carmel Bach Festival so you can listen to orchestral and choral works, individual vocal and chamber ensemble concerts, watch films, recitals, lectures, and informal talks in addition to social and family events.

You can also lounge on the beach or take leisurely walks around town, visiting fairytale houses with the help of an audio tour!

Chatham, Massachusetts

This gorgeous and lovable city, located at the southeastern tip of Cape Cod, is the perfect destination for those who want to spend long hours on the beach, particularly Lighthouse Beach, a favorite among locals and visitors.

Tour the Monomoy Islands with your friends or family- how to get there? By taking a trip abroad the Rip Ryder, of course, with Captain Keith Lincoln at the helm. This wildlife refugee is perfect for long walks as well as bird watching.

Now is also the perfect opportunity for seal-watching. Get on board the Beachcomber Boat Tours, a bright yellow vessel that will drop you off (and pick you up later, don’t worry) North Beach, yet another place you can get in touch with nature and escape the hustle and bustle of big cities.

Kennebunkport, Maine

If you need something different this holiday season then look no further than Kennebunkport, Maine, known as the country’s most dedicated Christmas towns. Trust us, there’s no better place for you to rekindle the love you once had for this beloved holiday. You’ll experience lights, caroling, and gift-shopping like no other!

Of course, Kennebunkport is the place to be all year round if you don’t want to visit over the holidays! There are tours for sightseers if you want to discover all the best places, hiking, and cycling trails, kayaking, surfing, fishing, and whale watching! To put it simply, everyone in your group, no matter how big it is, will find something to do!

In terms of galleries, The Port is a great place to view arts and crafts made in Maine, the Seashore Trolley Museum is great if you’ve brought your furry friend along, while the Kennebunkport Historical Society is the perfect place for a fun and interesting history lesson.

Kiawah Island, South Carolina

There is no better place for wildlife lovers than Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Here you’ll see otters, bobcats and other animals roam free, just make sure to keep a safe distance and follow local guidelines when interacting with them!

The Kiawah Island Golf Resort is a great place to visit for both old-time golf lover and new players. Make sure to check out their Recreation Programs for water sports and diverse wildlife, miles of trails and eco-adventures.

For kayak, surf & SUP rentals as well as guided tours, check out Tidal Trails, and for when you just need to relax and bask in the sun, head on over to the beach and sip on your favorite cocktail!

Savannah, Georgia

If you literally want a little bit of everything, don’t forget to book your trip to Savannah, Georgia, known as one of America’s best cities. You’ll find no shortage of history and gorgeous architecture here so walking down endless roads could be a simple but fun activity for your whole group!

The Savannah Historic Trolley Tour is a must-see, as is Savannah Riverboat Sightseeing. A dinner and a cruise? Who could resist?

If you want something a little spookier, head on over to the Ghosts & Gravestones of Savannah Bus Tour, a 75-minute that will take you through America’s Most Haunted City of Savannah! Do you have the courage to listen to chilling stories? What aout making contact with spirits?

And don’t forget, this city is also known for the food, so make sure you eat out as often as possible and try everything there is to try from every menu!
