PONT ABERGLASLYN AND CWM BYCHAN
Beddgelert is the prettiest village in the region, and a starting point for many walks. Follow the well-marked path south between the River Glaslyn and the tracks of the Welsh Highland Railway to reach the National Trust car park just before Nantmor. From here, bear northeast up Cwm By chan, passing little waterfalls and old copper mines. At the top of the valley, turn west towards the cairn of Mynydd Sygyn, then follow the steep path back down to Beddgelert.
NANTLLE RIDGE WALK
With easy scrambling and views out to sea on clear days, this is a well-loved ridge walk. Set out from the village of Rhyd Ddu, scaling the peak of Y Gam to the west. From here, the walk levels out and follows a narrow ridge south and west. The path is not shown on many maps, but is much-trodden. Go as far as the obelisk at Mynydd Tal-y-Mignedd, then double back for a half mile. Follow a not her ridge south to Bwlch-y-Ddwy-elor, and return to Rhyd Ddu through Beddgelert Forest.
LLYN EIGIAU, MELYNLLYNAND LLYN DULYN
The eastern slopes of the Carneddau range are one of the least-visited corners of Snowdonia. From the small car park southwest of Tal-y-Bont on the road to Cwm Eigiau, follow the track south and west to the fearsome cliffs at Craigyr Ysfa, where Mallory once climbed.
Bear north over the mountain, staying above the lakes of Melynllyn and Dulyn-the shores of the latter are home to Snowdonia’s only official bothy. After Carnedd Gwenllian, make east back down to the car park.
