Top 10 Luxury Seafood Restaurants In Amsterdam

BRIDGES, INSPIRED BY RON BLAAUW – Tastefully decorated seafood restaurant of five-star Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam. Working with Amsterdam’s famous chef and restaurant developer Ron Blaauw guaranties success. On Bridges’ menu you will find many types of oysters, beautiful styled special seafood platters and many fine wines. Our absolute favourite fish dish is the soft cooked mackerel with a bouillon of carrot, salad of roasted potatoes, sweet-onion-compote and a ‘bitterbal’ of Dutch shrimps.

THE SEAFOOD BAR – Fresh, bright and big: The Seafood Bar on Spui, a concept of well-known hospitality entrepreneur Fons de Visscher, looks like a French seafood restaurant complete with an impressive bar show-casing beautifully arranged fish and shellfish. For lunch or dinner, the ‘Plateau Deluxe’, a seafood platter with eel fillet, shrimp, smoked salmon, prawns, tuna salad, snow- crab and langoustines is highly recommended.

PESCA – A new hot spot for seafood lovers on Rozengracht in the centre of Amsterdam. The owners of entertainment formula Supperclub, known for their ‘loungy’ clubs and bars, have transformed the property of former restaurant Nomads into a contemporan-theatre-restaurant where you can enjoy delicious seafood, oysters and many tasty wines and cocktails and an evening filled with spectacle.

STORK – Cafe-restaurant Stork is a fish and seafood restaurant in the north of Amsterdam, situated in an old industrial loft, the former Stork factory, at the banks of the river IJ. Here it is all about daily fresh caught and prepared products. The menu offers a wide range of fish and seafood. From a classical fruits de mer to whole served fishes. VIS AAN DE SCHELDE For years this hotspot has been praised as the best seafood restaurant in Amsterdam. Vis aan de Schelde only Serves seasonal dishes and presents a completely new menu with a choice of 60 different dishes every 10 weeks. Chef and owner Michael Deenik uses only the latest cooking techniques to preserve the taste and quality of his wonderful fish and shellfish.

BOS & LOBSTER – High-quality seafood restaurant Bos & Lobster has played an important role in the transformation of Bos and Lommerweg into one of the most fashionable streets in Nieuw West. The restaurant’s menu is not very big, but offers lots of goodies such as home-grilled shellfish and whole or half lobster. Only stopping by for drinks? Then order the typically Dutch lobster croquettes as a side-dish.

MOSSEL & GIN – Owner Wouter ten Velde is doing a great job trying to make mussels ‘trendy’ again with his simple but very well-managed restaurant concept. The mussels on the menu – ordered in some interesting variations, such as mussels with Roquefort cheese – are, according to city newspaper Het Parool, among the best in the city. Mossel & Gin has five high-quality gin brands and as many delicious cocktails.

DE GOUDEN HOEK – A slightly different approach to the concept of a seafood restaurant. You won’t find any tuna, salmon or sole on the menu of De Gouden Hock in Spaamdammerbuurt. Instead they only offer simple and original fish platters of ‘by-catch’. The platters are fairly priced and very tasty. Try the salad with smoked mackerel, roasted beetroot and almond or the bisque of Oosterschelde beach crabs. Or go for traditional fish-and-chips.

LUCIUS SEAFOOD RESTAURANT – Grilled salmon, Dover sole, mussels, seafood, oysters and lobster. All dishes at Lucius (the Latin name for pike, a fish that will only survive in clean water) are of the highest quality and are supposedly very healthy. The restaurant on Spuistraat has attracted guests from all over the world for more than 40 years. Nice to know: the menu is available in nine languages.

JOHN DORY – New seafood restaurant of former Vis aan de Schelde-chef Arjan Wennekes, housed in a magnificent seventeenth-century warehouse on Prinsengracht, John Dory offers so-called ‘fishtronomy’: tasty, and above all affordable seafood (a three-course menu costs 35 euros). The restaurant is also open in the afternoon from 4 o’clock for a drink, a bite and a half dozen of the many delicious oysters on the menu.
