TRI, LAKE KOGGALA

Sri Lanka’s first design hotel has been built according to nature’s golden ratio, with freestanding suites spiralling around the hillside like the coil of a shell, from the lake shore to the vantage point at the top where a watertower houses the last three rooms.

A mirror-calm infinity pool stretches out above the lake, with pops of yellow towels and parasols jazzing up the crisp concrete architecture of the restaurant. Tri’s stellar holistic programme combines teacher Lara Baumann’s own quantum yoga, based on Ayurvedic principles, with treatments from visiting therapists. Doubles from about £205 half board
