Affordable March destination: Santa Fe, New Mexico

The weather has a tendency to be mild in Santa Fe all throughout March, with temperatures averaging about 55 degrees. Nice weather, with fewer crowds and incredible landscapes, makes it a stunning destination for hiking this time of year.

You can go on a leisurely hike along the Old Santa Fe Trail to marvel at the old adobe architecture of Old Town, then head up into the mountains and enjoy some skiing.

Some famous attractions in Santa Fe are Meow Wolf Santa Fe, the Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe Plaza, the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, and the New Mexico History Museum.

Affordable March destination: Antelope Valley, California

It may only be about an hour from the hectic city of Los Angeles, but it seems like a world away from the frenzy!

You’ve probably never heard of Antelope Valley, but with its mild temperatures and lack of big crowds, it’s a fantastic, affordable March destination, which also happens to be poppy season.

It’s a real sight to behold when these lovely flowers bloom, and the best place to see this spectacular scene is in the Antelope Valley California Poppy State Natural Reserve, which includes over eight miles of picturesque hiking trails.

Other popular attractions around the area include Prime Desert Woodland Preserve, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and the Museum of Art and History.

Affordable March destination: St. Augustine, Florida

One of the most amazing places to visit in the United States in March is St. Augustine! The weather here around this time is warm and sunny, with an average temperature of roughly 75 degrees. But the best part is that the summer crowds haven’t arrived yet.

So you’re free to explore the oldest city in our nation in peace. As you explore the area, you’ll see colorful gardens beginning to blossom and many historical and natural attractions.

Castillo de San Marco, St. Augustine Alligator Farm, and Zoological Park are the top attractions people see in the city.

And in March, travelers come for the festivals, which include the Celtic Music and Heritage Festival, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the Hot Air Balloon Festival, and the Seafood Festival.

Affordable March destination: Moab, Utah

The area around Moab has some of the most astonishing landscapes in the Southwest. Located between two of Utah’s five main national parks, Moab is an outdoor adventure epicenter known for its awe-inspiring red rock formations.

Delicate Arch, Devil’s Garden, Sand Dune Arch, Fiery Furnace, Balanced Rock, The Windows, Double Arch, and Landscape Arch are just some of the unbelievable natural features you can explore in this area.

Since entry is permitted 24/7, you can even go there after dark and watch a night sky free of light pollution!

And if you time your trip for the beginning of the month, you’ll have the best chance of avoiding crowds while enjoying relaxed weather in the 50s and 60s. Other must-do March activities include off-roading, hiking, and camping.
