When searching for destination trip ideas, safety is equally important as beauty, and although crime rates have dropped significantly in our country in the last two decades, it doesn’t mean that you’re free to wander around wherever you like.
As per FBI stats, between 1993 and 2019, the rate of violent crime dropped as much as 50 percent, but this piece of information doesn’t really apply to all corners of the U.S.
Indeed, some travel tips such as not wearing expensive and flashy jewelry, drinking responsibly, and using reputable transportation companies could help you minimize the risk of getting robbed or attacked. Yet, it’s best to prevent all these awful things by doing your research first. So, here are the safest cities in our country!
Needless to say, Naperville is an excellent, family-friendly suburb of Chicago, mainly due to its low crime rates. If you live in Chicago, there’s no excuse for not visiting this charming city. And if you need more reasons to visit Naperville apart from being safe, here we go:
First of all, we have the Riverwalk, which basically goes through the center of town along the DuPage River. The area is filled with artwork, fountains, bridges, parks, and cafes. Secondly, Naperville is home to Naper Settlement, a living 19th-century history museum that spreads across 12 acres.
Ahh, and we couldn’t forget about Moser Tower, a 160-foot tower opened to anyone who wants to enjoy panoramic views.
Irvine is definitely one of the safest and greenest cities in California. In fact, this city is safer than 89 percent of other cities and towns in California. Located in Orange County, Irvine is dotted with trees and flowers. So apart from being a safe place, Irvine can offer beautiful vistas, too.
Another thing that makes it the perfect destination is that the city offers preserved natural habitats and wildlands. So, with miles and miles of hiking trails, visitors can’t get bored here. They don’t have the time to. Just see it with your own eyes, and you’ll agree with us.
Thousand Oaks offers a secure atmosphere from all points of view. It’s the ideal place for any family. Plus, in less than 30 minutes, you arrive at Ventura. But, honestly, you don’t really have to leave this place, mainly because of its stunning mountains and perfect weather.
If you want to clear your head, Wildwood Regional Park is the best place for outdoor recreation. And if you choose to visit it, make sure you check its spectacular 40-foot Paradise Falls. The Gardens of the World, the Grant R. Brimhall Library, Conejo Valley Art Museum are also waiting for you.
Provo is a very secure and comfy place to visit and even reside. It has various historical sights, incredible buildings, and tasty food. Additionally, Provo offers simple access to travel, being situated near the freeway. Apart from all of these, the most important thing is that people here are super friendly and respectful.
If you ever visit Provo, you’ll see that, in general, the city is covered in an optimistic air. Some would say that it’s the perfect place to call home. Hiking trails, rivers, lakes, and many other outdoor activities are abundant in Provo, so you definitely won’t get bored while here.
Nestled alongside the shore, Carlsbad is the place where a pair of flip-flops is enough (shorts, too, you get the idea). On your way to the beach, you can find a plethora of Mexican food options, but our recommendation would be Garcia’s. However, if you’re not really a Mexican food lover, rest assured, there are many restaurants and food courts to choose from while enjoying the sunset.
And there’s LEGOLAND, too. Believe us… there is so much to visit and explore in Carlsbad. From the Buena Vista Lagoon to The Museum of Making Music, there’s something to do/see for everybody.
Whatever you want, including safety, is here in Port St. Lucie. This city is basically located in the heart of Florida, locals saying that Port St. Lucie is “the real Florida.” Visitors can do many outdoor activities here, like hiking environmental preserves, riding horses on the beach, or paddling lush rivers.
And you don’t even have to worry about hotel costs. Port St. Lucie is known for having excellent campgrounds. The best part? You can bring your four-legged buddy with you, as most places here are pet-friendly. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your things because the adventure awaits you!
Apart from being a secure place, Bellevue is also magnificent. I mean… the name itself means “beautiful view” in French. Let me put it this way: The city describes perfectly the words “nature meets urban.” And you can really see that from the above image. With tons of parks, small beaches, and lakes, Bellevue is ideal for outdoorsy persons.
There’s only one tiny problem… the living costs here are skyrocketing. In general, people who live there are more wealthy than average Americans. However, if your pockets allow you to visit this place, you should do it, without hesitation.
View, view, view! Temecula is all about that (plus safety, of course). With a Mediterranean climate, most people find Temecula the perfect place for outdoor activities. Things like hot air balloon rides at dawn, and award-winning winery visits are most wanted. *But I think it would be best for you to drink after your hot-air balloon ride. Don’t you agree?
With so many interesting things to do and visit, there’s no wonder why Temecula is also called “a tourist’s secret paradise.” Plus, some Californians even say that Temecula is the perfect playground for photographers and antique lovers.
For those who are passionate about biking and hiking, Boulder should be on their favorite destinations list. The city is basically an assemblage of historical sights, vibrant colors, dramatic views. If you’re keen on skiing, Boulder is again the answer. The Christmas period is the best time to visit this city.
Outdoorsy people will most likely love Boulder; I mean, what’s not to like? Just look at the above image… The views are simply stunning. Plus, the city is literally the definition of “safety.” You just have to pack your stuff (including your bike because there are miles of paths waiting for you).
Nowadays, when you hear the word “corona,” you instantly think of “coronavirus.” However, this might not be the case for some Californians, as they might live in a city called Corona. Unlike what the coronavirus did to us, the city is super calm and quiet. People are super-friendly here, and the diversity is slowly but surely increasing.
So, if you want to visit a tranquil city with beautiful vistas, you should take a look at Corona. Things like Corona Heritage Park Museum, the Arts Colony, Skull Canyon Ziplines, Glen Ivy Hot Springs, and Brentwood Park always attract visitors, so make sure you check them.
If you want to visit a beautiful city in which you feel both comfortable and safe, opt for Torrance, California. Locals spend their free time shopping and eating out quite often, so if you really want the best recommendation for restaurants and shops, ask locals.
The best part about Torrance is that their public beach feels really private, so you’ll enjoy the life of a millionaire without spending a fortune. And if you want to take a bite of its history, make sure you visit the Torrance Historical Society, free of charge!
P.S.: As you can see, most of the cities displayed in this article are located in California due to their low crime rates. So, maybe you should focus more on California.
