And even though some of these US hot springs are difficult to access, we found a few that offer all the amenities you could dream of in the wintertime. But don’t forget! Besides being an excellent way to unwind and relax, hot springs can also be therapeutic.

They usually contain minerals and heat to reduce stress, help soothe sore muscles, and improve blood circulation.

So, whether you’re hoping for a natural remedy for your aches and pains or are looking for a peaceful getaway from the stress of daily life, here are our 10 favorite US hot springs to visit this winter!

Thermopolis, Wyoming

If you wish to experience several relaxing spring-fed spots, head over to Thermopolis, Wyoming, and you won’t be sorry! While here, be sure to check out Hot Springs State Park.

It’s home to a complimentary hot spring-fed bathhouse, and you’ll even get a glimpse of some wildlife, including bison. And if you want a longer soak in a US hot spring, consider heading to Hellie’s TeePee and Spa or the Star Plunge.

Deep Creek Hot Springs, California

Situated in San Bernadino National Forest, Deep Creek Hot Springs is accessible via a trek. It’s nestled at the rear of a trail, spanning 3.6 miles, making it a convenient place for hikers.

But, even vacationers who aren’t into all that hiking will have a wonderful time once they get to these US hot springs. So trust us when we tell you: The effort is well worth it! You’ll be greeted with numerous natural pools with varying temperatures, giving you several options.

Also referred to as Bigelow Hot Springs, Deep Creek Hot Springs is beautifully placed next to the McKenzie River. And while here, you can stay at Horse Creek Lodge & Outfitters or camp in San Bernadino National Forests.

Terwilliger Hot Springs, Oregon

If you want to get in tune with Mother Nature, you should definitely consider visiting Terwilliger Hot Springs! These rustic US hot springs consist of several pools that rise in temperature as they grow closer to the source.

The lowest pool is about 85 degrees, while the upper pool is near 112. The beautiful lush foliage of the forest also surrounds the pools and only requires a quick quarter of a mile hike to reach.

The good news is that they’re open year-round. Just keep in mind that road conditions can be rough at times, especially in the wetter months. So remember to double-check that the weather suits your vehicle before beginning your trip.

Valley View Hot Springs, Colorado

As you might have guessed, Colorado is home to many impressive hot springs, Valley View being among them. Visitors can take an hour’s drive north of Great Sand Dunes National Park. And it will lead to these beautiful hot springs.

You’ll only have to hike about 400 feet to find these hot springs nestled among beautiful remote trees. A deep pool and some swim laps in the naturally heated pool are close to the storybook cabins.

Temperatures in this US hot spring range from 93-107 degrees depending on the time of year you visit. The area is encircled by eight different pools, allowing visitors to find what they prefer and enjoy Mother Nature.

Spence Hot Springs, New Mexico

Cradled in Santa Fe National Forest, Jemez Canyon and Spence Hot Springs are some of the most relaxing places to book for a winter vacation in the US. These US hot springs boast simmering thermal waters and spectacular views of the surroundings.

They’re a popular destination in the summer and during weekends. But in our humble opinion winter is the ideal time to explore them since there are no crowds to interrupt your peaceful moment.

The little hot springs pool can only accommodate up to 10 people. While here, you can camp at Santa Fe National Forest or Vista Linda Campground, which is nearby.

Boquillas Hot Springs, Texas

Big Bend National Park is home to the remote Boquillas hot springs an they’re well hidden from the public. They’re located above the Rio Grande and deliver spectacular views of Mexico City when one is on the other side of the river.

Once you enter the park, you’ll drive for roughly two hours until you reach a narrow dirt road that will take you to the trailhead.

Then, you’ll walk about half a mile away from the parking lot to this US hot spring, whose water is heated by geothermal activity to 105 degrees. And if the spring water gets too hot, jump into the Rio Grande River to cool down a bit.

Burgdorf Hot Springs, Idaho

If you want to spend your day hiding from everything and everyone, then this hidden gem is one of the best US hot springs in the nation in the winter to do just that. And it’s only an hour from McCall.

The resort has three log-sided pools with hot water where people can just unwind and relax. Water in the two small pools is about 118 degrees, while the big pool’s temperature ranges between 100-115, depending on the season.

Generally, you can access these springs by driving during the summer and spring. But in the colder months, you’ll need a snowmobile to get to them.

Umpqua Hot Springs, Oregon

Also known as Toketee Hot Springs, these are among the coziest US hot springs you can book this winter. And the best part is that they’re easily accessible through a short hike.

You’ll also love the breathtaking views of the surroundings, especially from the US hot spring pools’ terrace.

The site is only accessible during the day and has much to explore, including hiking trails and waterfalls. The hot springs are located in the Umpqua National Forest, where you can also camp at Toketee Lake Campground.

Fifth Water Hot Springs, Diamond Fork Canyon, Utah

These natural springs are a mere hour’s drive from Salt Lake City and can be difficult to access. They’re about two and a half miles from the trailhead and require a bit of a climb at an elevation of roughly 700 feet.

But don’t keep scrolling yet! We promise they’re worth it! The Fifth Water Hot Springs are also called Diamond Fork Hot Springs and contain a stunning waterfall and numerous pools where you can soak and unwind.

They look like they’re from a fairy tale and offer incredible turquoise waters. These US hot springs also have a little sulfurous smell, but soaking in them is an excellent reward for all your effort!

Omni Bedford Springs Resort, Pennsylvania

Omni Bedford Hot Springs Resort is a historic hotel that’s been around for more than 100 years and offers an incredibly grand experience of US hot springs in the winter.

Besides soaking in its relaxing hot springs, there’s a Springs Eternal Spa, where you can get different treatments to reach optimum relaxation.
