April destination: Bar Harbor, Maine

For: Those seeking a peaceful coastal escape

To see and do:

-Watching an Instagram-worthy sunrise from the top of Cadillac Mountain. The combination of the glowing oranges, ocean, mountains, and islands is truly what Bar Harbor is known for!

-Dining at the popular nautical-themed Geddy’s Restaurant on the main street and witnessing stunning views of Frenchman Bay from the large windows. I highly recommend the Classic Maine Blueberry Pie and the Taco Salad!

-Discovering the stunning coastline via an e-bike rental from Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop.

-Hop on Oli’s Trolley and explore the town with a narrated tour, learning all about the town’s history!

You’ll be completely charmed by this quaint New England coastal jewel! While visiting this April destination, you’ll see the gently bobbing yachts and boats filling the scenic harbors and quaint docks, the dramatic seaside cliffs, the colorful historic architecture, and the ocean views.

The atmospheric weather added to all that, ranging from sparkling sunlight to thick mist and fog. Even though the temperatures aren’t quite as hot as in the summer, the off-season period means there will be far fewer crowds, better deals on lodging, and a much more relaxed local vibe. The flowers are also beginning to bloom during this time.

And the temperatures are ideal for hiking. My favorite part, though, is that April kicks off the whale-watching season along the Maine coast. So you can get a glimpse of minke, humpback, and finback whales as they migrate through the nearby waters!

I also think you’ll love exploring the nearby Acadia National Park, walking the Bar Harbor Shore Path, going on a whale-watching tour, discovering the small sandy beach, and exploring the charming downtown area filled with adorable art galleries, stores, and a diverse range of restaurants.

April destination: Naples, Florida

For: Beach lovers

To see and do:

-Visit the Naples Botanical Gardens. You’ll especially love the Brazilian Garden, the Caribbean Garden, and the leafy rainforest boardwalk!

-Stay at the luxuriant 4-star Inn at Pelican Bay. What I love is the unique boutique decor, the cool fire pit, the lakeside dining, and the heated outdoor swimming pool!

-Go on a spectacular sunset cruise with Naples Princess Cruises. The freshly prepared buffet-style dinner is incredible!

-Relax on the family-friendly Vanderbilt Beach. The peaceful Clam Pass Beach comes in at a close second as my favorite!

Located in southwest Florida, along the Gulf of Mexico, Naples is a lovely, upscale April destination where you’ll find an excellent opportunity to lounge on the beach and explore the unique Everglades National Park. There’s also the peaceful Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge.

The weather warms up in April, but it doesn’t hit the extremes of summer yet. There will also be less rainfall and humidity during this time, which is a bonus! I think it’s a wonderful, laid-back alternative to the craziness of the spring break scene you’ll find in Miami!

Many folks are big fans of its vibrant cultural scene, paradise-like white sand beaches, exceptional upscale shopping and dining, and its wide range of activities, including wildlife-watching, hiking, biking, and all kinds of water sports, from parasailing to kayaking.

April destination: Sedona, Arizona

For: Wellness and spiritual seekers

To see and do:

-Explore the red sandstone rocks of nearby Red Rock State Park, and witness the rising and setting sun and glowing as if they were on fire.

-Relax by the swimming pool at the gorgeous Mii Amo Spa and indulge in Ancestral Stone Massage.

-Staying at the romantic Inn Above Oak Creek Sedona. It was an art gallery before being converted into an inn. You’ll love the gorgeous setting, as well as the cozy fireplaces and the in-room jetted tubs!

-Go on a guided Tour with Arizona ATV Adventures and explore the remarkable West Sedona Canyon outback.

You’ll love this desert town for its unique vibe, fantastic location, creative community, and focus on both wellness and spiritual energy! It’s located in Arizona and is home to red rock formations, including Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock, and Courthouse Butte being the most striking.

The town offers exceptional accommodations and hiking trails, from eco-friendly dwellings and picturesque campgrounds to adorable boutiques and luxury resorts. I highly recommend timing your visit to go this month because I found the temperatures pleasant and well-suited for hiking. April.

There’ll be fewer crowds and better accommodation rates. Also, the pretty wildflowers will begin to bloom, consisting of prickly pear cactus flowers and desert marigolds.

Travelers usually appreciate the scenic Oak Creek Canyon Drive, discovering the charming Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village, hiking the popular Devil’s Bridge and Cathedral Rock Trails, attending the annual Sedona Yoga Festival, indulging in spa and wellness treatments, browsing the cute art galleries and quirky shops and learning about the energy vortexes located in the area!

April destination: Texas Hill Country

For: Nature lovers

To see and do:

-Rent an electric bike from Hill Country Bicycle Works and cycle along the lovely Willow City Loop while marveling at the scenic countryside and bluebonnet fields.

-Explore the fantastic restaurants, artisan shops, and German bakeries in Wimberley, Fredericksburg, and Luckenbach. Don’t miss the delicious kolaches and apple strudels and watching the live folk and blues bands.

-Stay at the unique Swiss-inspired Barons CreekSide Resort. Everyone who visits loves the hand-crafted Swiss log cabin… complete with a hot tub!

-Sampling Tempranillo wine at Pedernales Cellars. The hilltop views were also stunning!

If you ask me, this place is one of the most underrated April destinations in America! Located near Austin, it’s a scenic place at any time of year and is filled with unique granite and limestone hills, peaceful nature, winding rivers, and great accommodations, from cozy cabins and glamping sites to boutique hotels and guest houses.

Late March and April are must-visit times because that’s when the area comes alive with carpets of wildflowers, including Texas’ state flower, the famous bluebonnets, primroses, and Indian paintbrushes.

When here, you’ll enjoy exploring the charming towns that have German roots, visiting wineries and vineyards on the Texas Wine Trail, discovering the many amazing craft breweries, and sampling the area’s food, which is influenced by Texas and German traditions, with a focus on farm-to-table dining!

Many also enjoy biking, hiking, and taking scenic drives while here! I especially recommend the picturesque Highway 290 and the spectacular Willow City Loop.

April destination: Tidal Basin and Washington, DC

For: Photographers and families

To see and do:

-Spend a day at the National Cherry Blossom Festival and watch the colorful floats and talented marching bands.

-Walk the picturesque 2.1-mile Tidal Basin Loop Trail and see the memorials, monuments, and enchanting blossoms along the way!

-Rent a paddle boat at the Tidal Basin. Admiring the blossoms from the water is a WHOLE different experience!

If you’ve been dreaming about seeing cherry blossoms but can’t get to Japan, this gem is for you! It’s a scenic, man-made reservoir located in D.C. The blossom trees were a gift from Japan in 1912.

And with all the beautiful pink and white flowers in bloom and all the fascinating monuments and memorials, it’s a very photogenic place! So don’t forget to pack your camera for this April destination.

When here, you can also explore more of D.C.’s attractions, including the lively Union Market, The White House, The National Mall, the excellent museums, and the charming Dupont Circle.
