
5. Shoshone Falls—Idaho
Often referred to as the “Niagara of the West,” Shoshone Falls plunges 212 feet into the Snake River Canyon. Multiple overlooks are located near the parking lot, offering panoramic views of both the waterfall and the surrounding canyon landscape.
Spring is the most dramatic time to visit, when snowmelt swells the river and increases the force of the cascade. The viewing areas are spacious and well-maintained, making it easy to appreciate the waterfall’s scale without undertaking a strenuous hike. It’s an unexpected gem in southern Idaho and well worth a roadside stop.
